This wedding was a special treat to photograph. Not only did I get to spend some time in the beautiful Kona Kai Resort in San Diego, I also got to connect with an old friend I hadn’t seen in maaaaaany years. The beautiful bride Megan and I went to College together and stayed in touch via facebook over the years until she contacted me some months ago and asked me to shoot her wedding…I love when things like that happen!!
Megan and Francisco live in Lisbon, Portugal (which is actually where I met my husband 😉 ) and it certainly made it even harder to plan a relatively-short-notice-wedding from such a distance. I can’t believe they pulled it off! And do you see that beautiful crown Megan is wearing? It wasn’t part of the Megan’s wedding outfit until the day before her wedding! It belonged to Megan’s mother but had been stored away at her grandmother’s house for decades – only due to a happy accident did Megan’s cousin come across it and send it to Megan just before the wedding. This was especially meaningful because Megan’s mother passed away recently. I can’t even imagine how hard it must be to plan a wedding and deal with such a loss at the same time. Many of the getting ready as well as bride & broom photos were taken at Megan’s mother house…another beautiful way of intertwining her memory into Megan & Francisco’s day. It was truly amazing to share such a day of joy and remembrance with Megan and her family!
